Authorities identify victim in fatal shooting outside Colorado Springs’ El Paso County Courthouse
On Monday, the public got to know the identity of the victim who was fatally shot outside of the El Paso County Courthouse in Colorado Springs.
According to the Colorado Springs Police, the demise of William Winters is now being investigated as the 29th homicide case of the year.
Flashing lights and emergency vehicles were visible in several blocks near the courthouse building in downtown Colorado Springs on Thursday. According to the Colorado Springs Police, they received a call at 10:03 a.m. reporting an apparent shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a person who had died from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Winters.
According to Ira Cronin, a spokesperson for CSPD, the incident in question was not an active shooter situation. Instead, it seems to have been an isolated incident.
According to Cronin, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will take charge of any investigation conducted within the courthouse, while the CSPD will handle the investigation pertaining to the reported shooting outside of the courthouse.
Shaquille Brown, aged 29, has been charged with first-degree murder, according to reports.
Roughly 20 individuals from the Colorado Springs Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. According to reports, two individuals were treated for injuries that were considered minor. However, the fire department did not provide any additional details regarding the nature of those injuries.
The courthouse shut down for the remaining part of the day and resumed its operations on Friday morning.
The suspect stated in the arrest papers that he shot Winters because he feared for his life.
