Former Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant Arrested After Standoff, Shooting
After a 12-hour standoff with law enforcement, the former lieutenant of the Miami-Dade Police Department confronts serious charges. This is not Fernandez’s first encounter with law enforcement; he was previously terminated for domestic violence incidents. He is currently accused of firing shots from a barricaded residence.
Evelyn Fernandez, a retired lieutenant with the Miami-Dade Police Department, allegedly shot at her ex-boyfriend and barricaded herself in her home for nearly 14 hours. The incident occurred near the intersection of 282nd Street Southwest and 167th Avenue.
The Priority Response Team and Special Response Team of Miami-Dade County responded to the barricade. Officers removed Fernandez from the house’s attic using a heavily-armored lift. Fernandez is charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting/throwing a lethal projectile, violently resisting an officer, and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
