According to prosecutors, Zhontay Capers has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Bernard Gribbin, a long-time employee of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). The incident took place on Thursday morning at around 10:30 a.m. when Gribbin arrived at a bus stop located at the intersection of Germantown and Abbottsford Avenues. Capers allegedly fired shots at him, hitting him on the right side, and then exited the bus before turning around and firing again. Sadly, Gribbin passed away later at the hospital due to the injuries sustained in the attack.

After fleeing the scene, Capers was eventually apprehended and charged with multiple offenses by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. Along with the murder charge, Capers is facing charges of recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, and carrying a firearm without a license.

According to reports from local Fox affiliate WTXF, witnesses recounted that passengers panicked and attempted to flee the bus by jumping out of windows and emergency exits when a female suspect shot and killed the SEPTA driver onboard. Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed during the incident.

According to Keith Bradford, the SEPTA Midvale District union representative, Bernard’s tragic incident has left us all devastated as we can relate to his situation. As quoted in the local ABC affiliate WPVI, Keith said, “We all come here just to take care of our families just like Bernard did.
