Last March, Breathe, the pilot program by the LA Department of Children and Family Services, became available to foster youth aged 21 to 23. The program aims to provide financial stability to households without any work requirements. Foster youth can benefit from this program, as it offers much-needed support during the transitional period of their lives. Additionally, the program can help them secure their basic needs and enable them to focus on their personal growth and development.
A Democratic lawmaker from Chicago is leading a rebellion within the party to bring back ICE and stop the surge of immigrants. The lawmaker is advocating for a return to a more robust border control policy and is pushing for a crackdown on illegal immigration. The move comes amid a surge in illegal immigration, which has strained resources and led to increased crime rates in many areas. While the issue of immigration remains contentious, many are calling for a more balanced approach that considers both economic and security concerns.
A total of 1,200 individuals were selected for the program, with 1,000 of them being granted a monthly stipend of $1,000 for a period of three years. The remaining 200 participants were chosen to receive the same amount for two years.
According to the Washington Examiner, the Strength Based Community Change agency in LA County sends out the funds on the 15th every month.
As per the program’s website, the objective of the initiative is to assist individuals during times of economic uncertainty. It aims to reduce stress levels and expand the beneficiaries’ horizons, thereby allowing them to pursue their educational goals and job training that they may have postponed earlier. Additionally, the program encourages full participation of the recipients in their respective communities.
The application process for Breathe commenced on March 31, 2022, and concluded on April 13, 2022. Additionally, applications for the extension, which aimed to cater to 200 more recipients, opened on June 20 and closed on July 3.
