Mike Johnson raises $1 million for New York GOP, discusses impeachment of Biden

House GOP Speaker Mike Johnson revealed on Sunday that the Republican Party in the House of Representatives might hold a vote this week to authorize the impeachment probe of President Biden. This news comes as Johnson attended two upscale events in Manhattan, where he mingled with affluent donors.

According to sources, Johnson raised over $1 million during the fundraising events to support New York Republicans in their efforts to maintain and expand the GOP majority in the 2024 congressional races.

Elise Stefanik, the House GOP Conference Chairwoman, assisted in coordinating the events as she accompanied him.

Johnson made his first public address at a luncheon held at the Empire Steakhouse in Midtown East. The event was attended by John Catsimatidis, the owner of WABC radio.

Stephen Schwarzman, the chairman of Blackstone, was also included as a host.

The next gathering took place at the luxurious residence of Haim Chera, the esteemed head of Vornado Realty. Haim Chera’s father had a longstanding friendship with former President Donald Trump, adding to the significance of the occasion. Co-hosting the event were Harry Adjmi, a prominent figure in the real estate industry, and Lee Zeldin, a former Long Island Representative and Republican candidate for governor.

The hosts of the two events were asking for a price range of $50,000 to $100,000.

An individual donor has the ability to contribute up to $373,400 to the joint Grow Majority NY fundraising account, which aims to support the re-election of the state’s House GOP delegation.

According to an attendee at the event, Johnson (R-Louisiana) mentioned that the House is making progress in the impeachment inquiry and that they might proceed with it as early as this week.

The main focus, however, revolved around the GOP’s efforts to raise funds and maintain control over the House.

In this election cycle, Johnson expressed his dedication to the Empire State and proclaimed that he would become “an honorary New Yorker.”

An attendee shared that he mentioned feeling right at home in the city and Long Island, thanks to his Italian-American mother and firefighter father.

Stefanik expressed her confidence in the leadership of Speaker Johnson, stating that New York will play a significant role in determining the House Majority in 2024. She believes that under Speaker Johnson’s strong guidance, their party will emerge victorious.

All House Republican members from New York were present at the event.

“Speaker Johnson and Chairwoman Stefanik have our heartfelt gratitude for their commitment to New York and their efforts to secure the funding needed to safeguard our seats and bolster our Majority. Their exceptional leadership positions Republicans for a formidable presence in 2024,” expressed Rep. Michael Lawler, who serves as the representative for the 17th Congressional District encompassing Rockland County and the lower Hudson Valley.”

Brooklyn Councilwoman Inna Vernikov was also present at the event.

Vernikov expressed his support for Speaker Johnson at an event, where he had the opportunity to meet and take a photo with Elise Stefanik, a prominent figure known for her unwavering commitment to conservative values.

On Sunday, Johnson also made a visit to Lawler’s district, along with visiting the districts of Representatives Anthony D’Esposito and Nick La Lota on Long Island on Saturday.

Some Republicans were privately concerned about Johnson’s fundraising abilities, as former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) was known for his exceptional fundraising skills.
