Pregnant model found dead in downtown L.A. died from ‘homicidal violence’
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the pregnant model found brutally murdered in her downtown apartment last month was the victim of “homicidal violence.”
Maleesa Mooney, 31 years old, was discovered dead in her apartment on the 200 block of South Figueroa Street on September 12, and her family is still awaiting answers.
Her exact cause of death was previously listed as “deferred,” but “Cause A” is now “homicidal violence” in the medical examiner’s online database. “Cause D” was listed as “other significant conditions.”
According to Mooney’s sister, the cause of death was listed as indeterminate because the victim was beaten so severely that it was difficult to determine her exact cause.
Her sister told KTLA that Mooney was two months pregnant when she passed away. She aspired to become a model and real estate agent.
According to family members who spoke with KTLA, the Los Angeles Police Department has not provided much information about what happened to Mooney. There have been no arrests in this case.
While Mooney’s death is being investigated as a homicide, little is known about Nichole Coats, another aspiring model who was discovered two days before Mooney in her downtown Los Angeles apartment. The two women were also discovered less than three miles apart.
Despite the similarities between the two women’s locations, ages, professions, and methods of death, LAPD officials believe the two cases are unrelated.
